The idea behind the festival was born in the imaginations of a couple of eager community members who believed that Lamberts Bay needed such an event not only to boost tourism, but also to enable the town to generate profits in order to better the lives of those in the community.
A meeting was called and the community invited. All agreed that the festival should become an annual event.

The first festival was held in March 2002 and is now run as a registered Section 21 Company, held by 4 directors of whom 2 male, 2 female and 16 committee members depicting all members of the community who receive no financial gain for any member by being part of the committee and that their services are rendered free of charge.

All funds will be ploughed back into the community to enable certain identified organisations, institutions and programmes to be funded to improve the lives of under privileged residents in the community.
